Bates Volleyball Takes To Road for First Time in NESCAC Play With Visit to Colby

Bobcats Fall to Mules, 3-0

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Bates College, coming off Saturday's thrilling 3-2 home victory over Connecticut College, took to the road for a NESCAC contest for the first time this season Tuesday as the Bobcats visited Colby College to renew their classic rivalry with the Mules.

It would be the home team that would secure the win on this night as Colby coasted to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-15) triumph over the garnet and white to improve to a perfect 3-0 (5-2 overall) in conference play. The Bobcats go to 2-5 (1-2 NESCAC) on the year.

A pair of 6-0 runs in the first set did the trick for Colby as the Mules locked down a 25-19 win in the frame. Colby jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the second stanza and never looked back en route to the 25-16 final.

Trailing 10-5 in set three, the Bobcats scratched out a 6-2 spurt to inch within one point of the Mules at 12-11. Leading 14-12, Colby kicked on the jets with an 8-0 push to put the match out of reach with a healthy 22-12 surplus. The two squads split the final six points of the frame.

Azariah Love (Fy.-McKinney, Texas) topped all participants with her eight kills on the night for the victors. Three other Mules followed with six kills apiece. Allison Rodriguez (Fy.-Irvine, Calif.) enjoyed a double-double performance consisting of 18 assists and 10 digs. Teammate Sydney Sick (So.-San Jose, Calif.) also dished 18 helpers in the win.

Reanna Yadao (Fy.-San Francisco, Calif.) and Alli McKenney (So.-San Carlos, Calif.) topped all players with 14 and 13 digs, respectively.

Katie Kortekaas, coming off a career-high 14 kills in Saturday's win over Connecticut College, landed a team-best six kills for Bates. Chrissy Chu continues to perform as the junior setter authored her third-consecutive double-double with 15 assists and 10 digs.

Ami Evans settled 12 digs while Eden Lorin accounted for 11 of her own.

The Bobcats return to Alumni Gym this Friday evening when they host DII Saint Michael's College (Vt.) at 6:00 p.m. It will be a homecoming of sorts for first-year head coach Lauren Bough, who is a member of the Bates College Class of 2019.
