MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- The Bates men's tennis team traveled to the Middlebury Invitational over the weekend to start their fall schedule against some tough competition.
The Bobcats found most of their success in doubles competition, as first-year
Alex Park (Dallas, Texas) and senior
Crosby Byrnes (New York City) emerged victorious in the "B" Flight Round of 16, defeating RPI's Pranav Varanasi and Caden Marston in a thriller by a count of 8-7 (7-1).
Meanwhile, after dropping their round of 16 match in the "A" Flight, senior
Alexander Gujarathi (Plymouth, Mass.) and sophomore
Theo Sardain (Dedham, Mass.) had a lot of success in the "back draw" winning 8-5 over Skidmore's Josh Finkle and Fletcher King, and following that up with an 8-7 (7-2) victory over the Tufts duo of Derin Acaroglu and Oliver Obeid.
Junior
Ben Adey (Falmouth, Maine) picked up a win in singles competition for Bates, defeating Harrison Huai of Brandeis in a three-set battle by a count of 6-1, 2-6, 10-7 in the "C" Flight back draw.
The Bobcats are back in action Sept. 29 - Oct. 1 at the ITA New England Championships, hosted by Bowdoin.
