HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates junior forward
Maria Femia was named NESCAC Field Hockey Player of the Week on Monday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference, following her trio of outstanding performances in a 3-0 start to the season for the Bobcats.
Femia (Canton, Mass.) led the charge in a 3-0 week for the No. 22 nationally ranked Bobcats. She opened the season with two goals and an assist in a 10-1 win over the University of Southern Maine. Femia followed that up with the eventual game-winning goal in a 9-0 victory over Thomas College. Then she capped off her outstanding week with a pair of goals in a 3-1 win over No. 14 nationally ranked Bowdoin, the Bobcats' first win in Brunswick since 1982.
Femia's five goals on the season come on six shot attempts and ties her for first in the NESCAC.
Femia is the first Bobcat to win NESCAC Field Hockey Player of the Week since senior captain Paige Cote (Auburn, Maine) earned the award exactly one year ago. This is the first NESCAC Player of the Week honor of Femia's career.
The Bates field hockey team is off to a 3-0 start for the second consecutive year. Bates visits No. 7 Babson this Wednesday at 6pm.
