MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Bates College softball ends Saturday action with a three-game winning streak as the Bobcats traveled to the Nutmeg State and promptly swept a pair vs. Wesleyan University, as the garnet-and-white improve to 10-6 (4-2 NESCAC) on the season.
GAME ONE (Bates 5, Wesleyan 0)
Madison Hollis (3-2) went the distance, scattering seven hits (1 BB) and striking out eight (career-high), as the first-year hurler authored her first collegiate shutout and clipped the Cardinals, 5-0, in Saturday's game one.
Bates plated single runs in the second and fourth frames before dropping a three-spot in the seventh, highlighted by a two-run single from SS
Ella Maher (Fy.), to secure the win. CF
Cassidy Musco (2-for-4, 2B, RBI) and RF
Grace Householter (2-for-3, RBI) also contributed run-inducing knocks while Hollis (1-for-2, RBI) aided her own cause with a sacrifice fly.
Katherine Merisotis, getting the start at first base for the Bobcats, went 2-for-3 with a run scored for the garnet and white.
GAME TWOÂ
(Bobcats 9, Wesleyan 4)
Owning a 5-0 lead after two-and-a-half, and adding a pair of runs in both the fourth and sixth innings, Bates never trailed en route to a 9-4 victory in Saturday's nightcap.
The Cardinals (10-14) made things interesting by slicing its five-run deficit to just one with a four-run third, but the Bobcats stayed calm and cool as the garnet and white eclipse the program's 2022 win total with the triumph.
Recording double-digits in hits (11) for the ninth time in its 16 outings, the Bobcats are now batting .316 as a team.
Hollis, after her outstanding showing in the circle in game one, closed the afternoon with a dominant display at the dish, going 3-for-4 with three RBI in the second contest.
Musco, now batting a cool .509 for Bates, went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs in the win.
Delaney Rankin (4-2)
recorded a complete-game victory of her own in the circle, allowing four runs on seven hits (2 BB) in seven frames. The first-year hurler also struck out three batters in the effort.
Bates stays on the road for its next outing, a 4:00 p.m. NESCAC doubleheader this Wednesday at Colby College.
