LEWISTON, Maine -- An 8-0 first quarter deficit did in Bates College Wednesday evening as the host-Bobcats eventually finished on the wrong end of an 18-8 decision vs. #19 Bowdoin College in NESCAC women's lacrosse action.
Minus the lopsided initial frame, the garnet and white played the Polar Bears (4-6, 2-4 NESCAC) rather closely the rest of the way. In fact, Bowdoin owned a slim 34-29 shot advantage (28-18 on frame) over the Bobcats.
Five members of the Bowdoin roster sported multi-goal performances in the road win with Sophia Sudano and her nine points (5 G, 4 A) leading the way. Fiona Bundy accounted for five points with two goals and three helpers while Colleen McAloon provided a hat trick and a lone assist. Emelia Krakora also garnered three goals for the Polar Bears.
Caroline Taggart (So.-Concord, Mass.) staked claim to half of the Bobcats' offensive output with four goals (and an assist) in the effort.
Sophie Brett, with six saves over 49:49 of action, was credited with the goalkeeping victory for Bowdoin.
Cammie Lavoie (Sr.-Epping, N.H.) made seven saves of her own (45:00) in the start for Bates.
Bates (4-7, 0-6 NESCAC) takes to the road for its next outing this Saturday as the Bobcats visit #23 Hamilton College at 12:00 p.m.
