WATERVILLE, Maine -- 2023 has come to a close for the Bates College women's lacrosse program as the Bobcats, visiting Colby College Wednesday, lost to the #12 Mules, 17-7, in NESCAC action.
The garnet and white concludes the campaign with a 5-10 overall record (1-9 NESCAC) while Colby (11-4, 7-3 NESCAC) advances to the 2023 NESCAC Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament this weekend as the #4 seed.
Colby opened Wednesday's affair with an initial 5-0 lead with 5:18 to go in the first quarter of action. After a pair of late-period tallies by the Bobcats made the score 5-2 heading into the second, the Mules unloaded for seven unanswered goals to go ahead by a commanding 12-2 margin with 5:21 left before intermission.
Both squads netted four goals apiece in the second half to maintain the 10-goal surplus owned by the home team.
Seven Mules recorded multi-goal performances in the rout as Ally Franz and Julia Jardina each contributed hat tricks for the victors. Gianna Bruno added six total points with a pair of tallies and four assists.
Maddy Roelofs (Jr.-Rye, N.H.) and
Caroline Taggart (So.-Concord, Mass.) topped the Bobcat lineup with two goals each for Bates.
Despite the outcome, the Mules only out shot its guest by two, 28-26 (25-19 on frame).
Sarah Hearns, with 10 saves in 45:00 of action, earned the goalkeeping triumph for Colby.
Cammie Lavoie (Epping, N.H.) ends her collegiate career with eight saves over 45:00 for the Bobcats.
