WORCESTER, Mass. -- 10 different Bobcats found the back of the net Wednesday as Bates College snapped its two-game slide with a 16-8 victory at Worcester State University in non-conference women's lacrosse action.
Owning a slim 4-3 lead after the initial period of play, the garnet-and-white unleashed a 7-0 surge to increase its advantage to 11-3 with 1:42 remaining before intermission.
The Bobcats (2-2) and Lancers (0-2) would proceed to alternate the contest's remaining 10 tallies, resulting in the 16-8 finish.
Trish Balser (So.-Ponte Vedra, Fla.) and
Hanna Matthews (Jr.-Westwood, Mass.) paced the Bobcat onslaught with four and three goal performances, respectively.
Caroline Taggert (So.-Concord, Mass.) followed with a pair of scores of her own.
Madie Donovan (Jr.-Cohasset, Mass.),
Shelby Howard (Sr.-Ashland, Mass.),
Caroline Keating (Fy.-Rye, N.Y.),
Annie Lowenstein (So.-Yarmouth, Maine),
Stella Stone (Sr.-Providence, R.I.), and
Grace Yonchak (Fy.-Needham, Mass.) accounted for the balance of Bates tallies.
For Keating and Yonchak, their goals mark the first of the duo's collegiate careers.
The Bobcats dominated the shot column at 45-21 with a 37-15 cushion on frame.
Cammie Lavoie (Sr.-Epping, N.H.) collected her second win (2-1) in net for Bates, recording three saves in 35:25. Despite the final score, Worcester State's Savanna Rosado did all she could to keep the Lancers in the contest with 21 saves in a complete-game effort.Â
Bates now prepares to make its 2023 home debut as the Bobcats welcome #19 Trinity College to Garcelon Field this Saturday at noon.
