CLERMONT, Fla -- After a satisfying two-game sweep Monday for Bates College, the Bobcats were up and at 'em Tuesday with a pair of softball contests on the slate vs. Keuka College (N.Y.) and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on day three of The Spring Games.
GAME ONE (Bobcats 12, Keuka College 4) (5 inn.)
The Bates College bats were wide awake for Tuesday's early-morning match-up vs. Keuka College as the Bobcats blasted the Wolves, 12-4, in five innings for a fourth-straight victory.
The garnet-and-white unloaded for a quartet of runs in the first, second, and fourth frames. Keuka (0-5) did itself no favors as the Wolves struggled mightily in the field with six errors.
A trio of Bobcats registered three hits apiece at the plate. CF
Cassidy Musco (Sr.-Walpole, Mass.) (3-for-4, 2 R), SS
Ella Maher (Fy.-Newton, Mass.) (3-for-3, 3B, 3 R, RBI), and
Rachel Liazos (Jr.-Westborough, Mass.) (3-for-3, 2 R, 2 RBI) accounted for nine of Bates' 14 hits, and came around to score seven runs for the garnet and white.
1B
Madison Hollis (Fy.-McMinnville, Tenn.) went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a pair of RBI while RF
Grace Householter (So.-Manhattan Beach, Calif.) collected two ribbies in a 1-for-3 effort at the dish.
Taylor Falotico (Fy.-Windsor, Conn.), making her collegiate debut in the circle for the Bobcats, went 2.0 innings, permitting three runs (0 ER) on two hits and a pair of free passes (2 K) in the start.
Katherine Merisotis (Sr.-Coventry, Mass.) came out of the bullpen and earned the victory (1-0) for Bates, completing the final three frames with one run allowed (2 H, 2 BB, 3 K).
GAME TWO (#24 Wisconsin-Oshkosh 7, Bobcats 1)
The scalding sticks of the Bates lineup ran into a buzzsaw in the nightcap as Titans' ace, Maddie Fink, yielded the Bobcats to a lone first-inning hit as #24 Wisconsin-Oshkosh improved to a perfect 14-0 with Tuesday's 7-1 victory.
Wisconsin-Oshkosh opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first, courtesy of a home run off the bat of C Sophie Wery. The Titans tacked on a single tally in the second and three more in the third to increase their cushion to a comfortable 6-0 margin after three full frames.
The Bobcats (4-2) manufactured its run in the seventh inning to spoil Fink's shutout bid. The Titan senior improves to 6-0 with the victory (7.0 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K). Hollis (1-2) took the loss for Bates (2.1 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 6 ER, BB).
The garnet and white now looks forward to a couple of days of Florida fun before returning to the diamond Friday at 2:00 p.m. for a doubleheader vs. Lawrence University (Wis.).
