LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates College women's tennis has now won consecutive matches for the first time this season as the Bobcats knocked off #37 Wellesley College, 6-3, Saturday in Merrill Gymnasium.
The garnet-and-white secures a 4-5 record with the triumph while the visiting Blue remain winless at 0-4.
Joanna Atwater (Sr.-Short Hills, N.J.) and
Ally Friedman (Jr.-East Hampton, N.Y.), Bates' top tandem, contributed to three of the Bobcats' six points with a shared win at No. 1 doubles and individual triumphs in singles play.
The duo opened the day with an 8-4 defeat of
Melinda Alviar and
Annissa Mu in the top doubles slot.
Ava Lyon (So.-Naples, Fla.) and
Isabella Saul (Fy.-Brooklyn, N.Y.) also provided a win at No. 3 with their 8-3 besting of Wellesley's Isabella DeAgazio and Jennifer Fan.Â
In singles competition, the Bobcats proved victorious at positions one through three. Friedman opened at No. 1 with a three-set win (7-5, 2-6, 6-0) over Mu while Atwater added a straight-set (7-5, 7-5) showing vs. Alviar.
At No. 3,
Laura Littlefield (Elicott City, Md.) got into the action as the senior put away DeAgazio by scores of 6-2, 6-0.
Drew Williams (So.-Guilford, Conn.) added the Bobcats' sixth-and-final point with a 6-4, 6-2 defeat of Fan at No. 6.
