OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Bates College faced off against #10 St. Lawrence University Saturday on the second-and-final day of the Stevenson University Mustang Classic as the undefeated Saints defeated the Bobcats, 16-7.
The-garnet-and-white, still seeking its first win of the season, drops to 0-5 while St. Lawrence goes to 5-0.
Despite the outcome,
Wil Masterson (York, Maine) paced Bates with four goals in the effort, the second four-goal performance of the year for the junior attack (3/11 at Trinity).
Connor Hartman (Fy.-Hingham, Mass.),
Jake Johnson (Jr.-Lake Forest Park, Wash.), and
Malcolm Klingbeil (Sr.-Powell, Ohio) accounted for the remaining three tallies for the Bobcats.
St. Lawrence opened by netting the first three goals of the game, owning a 3-0 lead at 8:18 in the first period. The two teams would alternate the next four tallies to make it 5-2 Saints at 14:30 of the second quarter. Bates proceeded to explode for a swift 3-0 spurt to knot the score at 5-5 with 4:53 left before intermission.
Tied again (6-6) with 13:56 on the third-period ticker, St. Lawrence unleashed three-straight to go ahead by a trio. Masterson's fourth-and-final tally put the Bobcats to within a pair (9-7) at 7:54, but the Saints sent the score out of reach with seven unanswered goals to close the contest.
Nine different Saints found the back of the net in the win with Ben Hutchinson staking claim to four of them.
St. Lawrence out-shot the Bobcats, 45-29, with a 32-15 advantage on frame.
Garrett FitzSimons (Sr.-Garden City, N.Y.) came to within one of his season-high save total with 16 on the day over his 60:00 of play. Michael Marinello provided eight saves in 56:41 for the victors.
The Bobcats look to crack the win column next Saturday with a visit to #11 Middlebury. Face-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
