Bobcats Wrap Up Non-conference Play With 14-7 Home Victory vs. Plymouth State

Taggart, Scola Combine for Half of Bates' Offensive Output

LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates College women's lacrosse wrapped up the non-conference portion of its calendar Wednesday as the Bobcats, courtesy of five unanswered scores in the fourth quarter, put away Plymouth State University, 14-7, on Garcelon Field.

Doubling up the visiting Panthers by a 6-3 score after the initial period of play, Plymouth State proceeded to outscore its host, 3-1, in the second to cut the Bobcat advantage to one (7-6) heading into intermission.

Still leading by a lone goal at 9-8 to start the fourth, the garnet-and-white fired off a 5-0 showing in the final frame to secure the triumph running away.

Caroline Taggart (Concord, Mass.), who now leads Bates with 15 goals and seven assists, recorded seven points on the night with four tallies and a trio of helpers. With six goals and an assist in Monday's win at St. Joe's, the sophomore attack has accounted for 10 goals and 14 total points over the last two games.

Sophie Scola (Sr.-San Mateo, Calif.) contributed a hat trick for the home team while Trish Balser (So.-Ponte Vedra, Fla.) and Lauren Wong (Fy.-Walpole, Mass.) followed with two tallies apiece as seven different Bobcats found the back of the net in the win.

Julia Donovan paced the Panthers (3-2) with three goals. Bates owned the shot column, 34-21, while leading on frame, 26-13.

Cammie Lavoie (Epping, N.H.) goes to 4-1 in the Bobcat net with six saves in a complete-game effort by the senior keeper. Plymouth State's Margie Clark secured 12 saves in 60:00 for the Panthers.

The Bobcats will now travel to Amherst College this Saturday to take on the #23 Mammoths at 12:00 p.m. in NESCAC competition.
