LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bobcat tandem of
Joanna Atwater (Sr.-Short Hills, N.J.) and
Ally Friedman (Jr.-East Hampton, N.Y.) provided plenty of excitement Sunday as the dynamic duo joined forces to defeat Middlebury College's Amy Delman and Claudia Miller, 8-4, in No. 1 doubles women's tennis action.
Hosting its second NESCAC contest in as many days, the victory would be the lone triumph of the day for Bates College as the #6 Panthers (3-0, 3-0 NESCAC) went on to secure the 8-1 conference win in Merrill Gymnasium.Â
Friedman proceeded to put on a show at No. 1 singles, eventually falling to Delman in three thrilling sets: 6-2, 3-6, 6-7 (5-7). Teammate
Laura Littlefield (Sr.-Ellicott City, Md.) also succumbed in a tie-breaker, doing so at No. 3 singles vs. Miller: 1-6, 6-4, 0-1 (3-10).
