LEWISTON, Maine -- Joanna Atwater collected her third consecutive singles victory Saturday for the Bobcats as Bates College women's tennis hosted #13 Williams in Merrill Gymnasium for a NESCAC matinee.

The senior from Short Hills, N.J., playing at No. 2 singles, defeated Williams' Mia Thomann by the scores of 6-2 and 7-5 to account for the Bobcats' lone win of the match as the visiting Ephs secured an eventual 8-1 conference road win.

Williams (1-1, 1-1 NESCAC) leaves Lewiston with its first team victory of the season. Bates goes to 2-4 overall with an 0-2 record in conference play.

Laura Littlefield (Sr.-Ellicott City, Md.) opened her No. 3 singles showdown vs. Yuu Ishikawa with a strong 6-0 win in set one. The Williams sophomore rebounded with a 6-2 answer in set two before completing the comeback and taking the tiebreaker by a count of 10-6.

Alexandra D'Aquino (Sr.-Weston, Conn.) and Ananya Aggarwal battled stroke-for-stroke in No. 4 singles. D'Aquino, representing the Bobcats, scratched out a 7-6 (7-5) win in the opening frame. Aggarwal answered with a 7-6 (11-9) showing in the subsequent set, followed by a tiebreaker victory of 10-7.
