LEWISTON, Maine -- The home portion of the 2022-23 men's basketball regular season concluded Saturday as Bates College suffered a 99-80 defeat to visiting Colby College in NESCAC men's basketball action.
Prior to first tip, the Bobcats recognized the collegiate careers of seniors
Steph Baxter (Worcester, Mass.) and
Cam Riley (North Myrtle Beach, S.C.) during the program's annual Senior Day celebration. Baxter, who less than 24 hours earlier became the 35th player in team history to net 1,000 points sporting the garnet and white, was unable to attend or compete on Saturday due to illness.
As for the game itself, the Mules (16-6, 3-5 NESCAC) controlled the action most of the afternoon, creating a 28-point lead in the first half and never looking back. Coming out of the break with a 58-34 advantage, the Colby surplus inflated to a game-high 30 with 10:11 to go in the second stanza (81-51).
Despite the final result, three Bobcats recorded double-digit scoring performances.
Brady Coyne (Fy.-Falmouth, Maine), in 23 minutes off the bench, registered a 6-for-13 shooting effort (three three-pointers) to pace the home team with 17 points.
Jahmir Primer (So.-Hempstead, N.Y.) followed with a 15-point showing over 27 minutes while
Trace Gotham (Jr.-Medfield, Mass.) was perfect from the floor, connecting on all five of his field-goal attempts (one three-pointer) for 11 total points.
Three Mules also hit for double-digits, topped by Noah Tyson with 19 points.
Bates (7-15, 1-7 NESCAC) remains idle until Friday when the Bobcats trek to Hartford, Conn. to take on Trinity College at 7:00 p.m.
