Men's Tennis Kicks Off Spring Calendar With Visit to Florida Southern College

Bobcats Lose to Division II Mocs, 6-1, in Opener of Annual Sunshine State Tour

Lakeland, Fla. -- Men's tennis, back in action for the first time since Oct. 15, kicked off its spring season Tuesday with a visit to Division II Florida Southern College.

The host-Mocs (3-2), playing their fifth dual match of the month, swept singles play en route to a 6-1 win over the Bobcats.

Despite the final result, Bates opened the afternoon by claiming each of the three doubles contests. The Bobcat tandem of Alexander Gujarathi (Jr.-Plymouth, Mass.) and Cameron Kania (Sr.-Middlefield, Conn.) proved victorious at #1 doubles with a 6-4 win over FSC's Matteo Feggi and Chris Fok Kow.

At #2, Matthew Danielson (Jr.-St. Petersburg, Fla.) and Leo Kupferman (Sr.-Montclair, N.J.) defeated Mario Garoz and Ryan Rajakar by a score of 6-2 while seniors Nick Forester (Falmouth, Maine) and Teddy Koide (Morristown, N.J.) erased Inaki Braun Simo and Danny Thomas, 6-4, in the #3 slot.

In singles action, the top match of the afternoon came at the #1 position. Florida Southern's Chris Fok Cow opened with a 6-1 win vs. Bates' Cameron Kania in set one. Kania evened the score at 1-1 with a 7-5 triumph in the subsequent frame.

It would be Fok Cow that would claim victory as the FSC junior secured the tie-breaker, 10-6, en route to the triumph.
