BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bates women's basketball team suffered their first loss of the season on Monday, falling 68-48 at Bowdoin in a non-conference game between the Bobcats and Polar Bears.
Sydney Jones was the star of the night for Bowdoin (6-1), tallying a game-high 26 points on 11-25 shooting. Jess Giorgio added 13 points and both Jones and Giorgio grabbed seven rebounds.

Morgan Kennedy (Oklahoma City, Okla.) paced the Bobcats (6-1) with 12 points, knocking down 3-6 from three-point range. Junior
Alexandra Long (Newtown, Pa.) added eight points, a team-high six rebounds, and three assists.
A pair of Giorgio layups sparked a key 8-0 Bowdoin surge late in the first quarter as the hosts claimed a 19-12 lead after ten minutes of play.
The Polar Bears took command with a 22-point second quarter, rolling off an 8-0 run to open the period that stretched the lead to double figures as Bowdoin led 41-25 at the break.
The Bobcats could never get it back to single digits in the second half as Jones took over, scoring 15 in the second half alone.
Bowdoin took care of the ball, committing just ten turnovers and scoring 20 points off 20 Bates turnovers.
The Polar Bears shot 45% for the contest and held Bates to 30% from the floor.
Bates is back in action Wednesday at 7pm when the Bobcats visit Colby for a non-conference game.
