WALTHAM, Mass. --
Babacar Pouye authored his second double-double in three games vs. Bates College as the first-year forward garnered season-bests of 24 points and 12 rebounds vs. #16 Emory University on the final day of the 2023 UAA Challenges, hosted by Brandeis University.
Despite Pouye's sensational showing, along with the 16 and 15 point performances, respectively, from teammates
Peter Psyhogeos and
Grant Nadeau, the Bobcats still fell short to the Eagles, 88-77.
After a back-and-forth first half that concluded with both squads locked in a 41-41 stalemate, the Eagles soared out of the locker room on an immediate 13-2 run to take a commanding 54-43 lead just 3:33 into the second stanza.
The Bobcats did what they could to claw their way back into the contest, but could not climb any closer than seven points the rest of the way. A Logan Shanahan dunk with 9:50 remaining put Emory ahead by a game-high 16 points, 71-55.
Like his counterpart from Bates, Shanahan also finished the afternoon sporting a double-double, contributing 21 points and 14 boards in the fifth-straight win for the Eagles (6-1). Jair Knight and Ben Pearce each netted 19 points apiece for the victors while Cale Martens added 12 points of his own.
As for the Bobcats, Pouye shot 6-for-12 from the floor and drained 10 of his 12 free throw attempts over 31 total minutes. The Carpenteria, Calif. native also supplied four assists and three blocks for the garnet and white. Psyhogeos also went 6-for-12 from the field while Nadeau connected on 5-of-10 field-goal attempts.
Bates (1-8) will next take the hardwood on Saturday, Dec. 9 with a 3:30 p.m. home game vs. intrastate rival, Colby College, in Alumni Gym.
