LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates field hockey team has made the NCAA Division III tournament for the first time in program history, as announced Sunday night in a live selection show on ncaa.com.
The No. 7 nationally ranked Bobcats will host Johnson & Wales University out of Providence, R.I. on Wednesday at 6pm at Campus Ave. Field. Due to this being an NCAA tournament game, admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children 12 or younger, and free for Bates students with a college I.D. Cash or credit cards will be accepted on-site.
The winner of the Bates-JWU game will travel to Babson on Saturday for an 11am second-round tilt.
"This was a lot of years in the making and countless hours have gone into preparation for this," senior captain
Paige Cote (Auburn, Maine) said. "Nothing beats our home crowd so we are really excited to host a first round game."
This year, the Bobcats advanced to the NESCAC semifinals for the first time in team history and currently sport an overall record of 12-5, their most wins in one season since 1982. Their 7-3 mark in NESCAC play is a new program record.
Bates ranks second in the NESCAC in goals per game (3.29) and the Bobcats have outscored their opponents by a count of 56-26.
The Cote sisters lead a balanced attack, with Paige ranking fourth in the NESCAC in assists (8) and junior
Anna Cote (Auburn, Maine) ranking eighth in the conference with 10 goals scored. Thirteen different Bobcats have found the back of the cage so far this season.
