BANGOR, Maine -- Senior captainÂ
Morgan Kennedy poured in 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Bates women's basketball team to a 58-50 win over Husson Tuesday night.Â
With the Bobcats holding on to a seven-point edge and Husson on a 5-0 run, Kennedy (Oklahoma City, Okla.) blocked Trinity Montigny's layup with 55 seconds left. Bates recovered the loose ball and eventually ran out the clock for the victory. It was Kennedy's second blocked shot of the contest.
Bates (6-0) took the lead for good when Kennedy drilled a three with 9:31 left in the second quarter, breaking a 13-13 tie. Kennedy hit 3-7 from long range in the contest.
The game remained very close for most of the first half. Husson (2-3) trimmed the Bates lead to 25-23 on a Montigny layup with 3:19 remaining until halftime.
But the Bobcats went on a 7-0 run to end the half. The run featured four different scorers for Bates, including Kennedy, who sank two free throws with 11 seconds left, putting the Bobcats up 32-23 at halftime.
The Eagles got no closer than within seven points the rest of the way. Bates led by as many as 17 in the second half. SophomoreÂ
Elsa Daulerio (Harpswell, Maine) made a layup despite getting fouled with 8:35 left in regulation, putting the Bobcats up 54-37. They kept Husson at bay down the stretch, surviving a 13-4 run by the hosts over the final eight-plus minutes of action.Â
Daulerio finished with nine points and six rebounds, blocking one shot and tallying two steals as well. Senior captainÂ
Davina Kabantu (Portland, Maine) added eight points and six rebounds.Â
The Bobcats won the game despite only shooting 30 percent from the floor, their lowest shooting percentage in a win since they defeated Amherst in the NESCAC championship game in 2022.
Bates scored 12 points off turnovers to Husson's three. The Bobcats hit 6-30 from three-point range and held Husson to 3-20 shooting from deep.
Bailey Donovan scored 17 points and grabbed a game-high 22 rebounds to pace the Eagles.Â
The Bobcats are back in action on Monday when they visit Bowdoin for a non-conference game that tips off at 7pm.
