Psyhogeos named to All-Tournament Team, men's basketball falls 81-67 to Cortland

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Sophomore Peter Psyhogeos was named to the All-Tournament Team, but the Bates men's basketball team fell 81-67 to Cortland on Sunday to wrap up the Hampton Inn Holiday Classic at Western New England University.

Psyhogeos (Yarmouth, Maine) poured in a team-high 21 points in 27 minutes on 9-15 shooting against Cortland (1-2) on Sunday. He drained 3-4 from three-point range and grabbed seven rebounds, recording a pair of steals as well.

The Bobcats (0-4) had three players finish in double figures against Cortland. Sophomore Elliott Cravitz (Denver, Colo.) and junior Grant Nadeau (Gorham, Maine) scored 15 points apiece, with Nadeau connecting on 6-9 from the field and 2-3 from three-point range.

A Cravitz three-pointer with 14:54 left in regulation put the Bobcats ahead 51-49. But a 6-0 run put Cortland ahead for good, as they went up by a score of 55-51 on an Aaron Coston three-pointer with 11:20 left in the contest.

Bates senior captain Simon McCormick (Whitefield, Maine) answered with a three of his own to trim the Cortland lead to one with 9:45 remaining. But an 11-0 run from Cortland over the next three minutes put the game out of reach for the Bobcats. Bates got no closer than to within 10 points the rest of the way.

Despite a 14-point margin of victory for Cortland, the game featured five ties and 16 lead changes. The Bobcats had a 41-40 lead at halftime but got outscored by a count of 41-26 in the second half. Bates shot 55.56 percent from the floor in the first half and only 27.03 percent from the floor in the second half.

Aaron Coston paced Cortland with 21 points on 7-12 shooting and Kareem Lubin added 20 points on 7-11 shooting.

The Bobcats are back in action this Tuesday when they host the University of Southern Maine at 7:30pm.
