LEWISTON, Maine -- Sophomore
Ami Evans floored a game-high 14 kills and settled a season-best 19 digs Sunday as Bates College hosted the University of Maine at Fort Kent in the first-ever meeting between the women's volleyball programs.
The visiting Bengals (12-0) remained undefeated on the season with narrow victories of 25-23, 25-22, and 26-24. The Bobcats slip to 3-12 overall.
Despite the result, Bates still owned advantages over Fort Kent in most every category, including: points (55.0-46.0), kills (44-38), service aces (6-5), blocks (5-3), assists (39-38), and digs (55-54).
Chrissy Chu landed a season-high six kills (.455 hitting %) for the Bobcats, to go along with 27 assists and eight digs.
Katie Kortekaas enjoyed a nine-kill afternoon for Bates while
Ellie Asada controlled 13 digs.
Bella Lomet also connected on a personal season-best six kills for the home team.
Sharon de Vet paced the victors with her 11 kills. Kayla Iwata put together a balanced attack for Fort Kent consisting of 18 assists, nine kills, seven digs, and three service aces. Carla Rodriguez followed with 14 assists while Genesis Wright and Halle Ham contributed 17 and 11 digs, respectively.
Bates returns to Alumni Gym Tuesday night for another non-conference tilt, this time vs. the University of Southern Maine. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
