GORHAM, Maine -- Taking the pitch together for the first time since Oct. 16, 2013, Bates College visited the University of Southern Maine Tuesday evening as the in-state foes renewed their rivalry by completing a scoreless, 0-0 tie in non-conference men's soccer action.
The stalemate marks the first such result for the Bobcats (2-6-1) this fall. The host-Huskies (4-5-3) have now played to consecutive 0-0 decisions, also doing so Sunday at the University of Maine-Farmington.
USM owned a narrow 11-9 surplus in the shot column with six of the Huskies' attempts finishing on frame. Bates managed just one attempt on goal overall. The Bobcats had their chances on the evening as the garnet and white registered a 10-1 advantage when it came to corner kicks.
Trevor Hammond earned his second shutout of the season as the first-year keeper record six saves for the Bobcats. Simon Gabaree also was credited with a complete-game shutout, registering a lone save over 90:00.
Bates returns to NESCAC competition this Saturday afternoon as Hamilton College visits the Bobcats at 2:00 p.m. on Russell Street Track & Field.
