LEWISTON, Maine (Garcelon Field) --
Charlotte Jones, playing in her final collegiate contest sporting the Bates College garnet and white, made the night one to remember as the senior midfielder buried a game-tying goal with 21 seconds (89:39) remaining to salvage a 1-1 stalemate vs. in-state rival, Colby College.
The San Juan Capistrano, Calif. native one-timed a
Maeve Parmelee pass from about 20 yards out and scorched a screaming shot into the upper reaches of the Colby cage, sending the Bobcat faithful into a frenzy. The tally was the second of the season for Jones while Parmelee, also playing her final match, collected her first assist.
Abigail Jarvi (Gilford, N.H.) provided the visiting Mules an initial lead in the 71st minute (70:48) when the first-year forward controlled a beauty of a cross from Madison Genser (Fy.-Newton Center, Mass.), dodged a pair of Bates defenders, and deposited the go-ahead goal (third of season) for Colby (5-6-4, 1-5-4 NESCAC).
Bates (3-8-4, 1-7-2 NESCAC) recorded a 5-4 advantage in the shots column, with all five of the Bobcats' attempts landing on frame. Colby goalkeeper, MK Marshall (So.-Pomfret, Conn.), recorded four saves in the draw. Jones paced the home-team offense with three shots on goal.
Samantha Bunar (zero saves) went the distance (90:00) in net for the Bobcats.
