LEWISTON, Maine (Wallach Tennis Center) -- Bates College hosted its annual Wallach Invitational this weekend as players from Bowdoin College, Colby College, Trinity College, and the Bobcats squared off over the two-day event.
Matthew Danielson,
Theo Sardain, and
Phillippe Kosyagin recorded singles victories for Bates while the doubles tandem of
Ben Adey and
Nicky Desai collected a win in their first match of the event.
Danielson, received a first-round bye in "A" singles before defeating Trinity's Enrico Buoro (6-0, 6-4) in the round of 16. The Bobcats' senior captain advanced to the quarterfinals where he was ultimately defeated by Joey Barrett of Colby College by scores of 6-3, 6-4.
Sardain, also competing in "A" singles, came out of his respective first-round bye and played two of the most thrilling matches of the event. The sophomore survived his initial contest by defeating Ethan Bradley of Bowdoin College, 6-4, 3-6 (10-4), in the round of 16. It would be another lengthy battle for Sardain in the quarterfinals where he eventually succumbed to Andrew Mendelson (Bowdoin) by scores of 1-6, 6-3 (4-10).
Kosyagin, playing in "B" singles, also earned a first-round bye and proceeded to knock off Sriram Das (Colby) 6-3, 6-3 in the round of 16. Moving on to the quarterfinals, Mick Tamas (Bowdoin) dismissed Kosyagin, 6-0, 6-4.
In doubles action, Adey and Desai enjoyed a first-round bye before sending off Trinity's Kartik Erodula and Bud Fisher in the round of 16, 8-3. Colby's Barrett and Paul Dandler would proceed to defeat the Bobcat duo by a score of 8-4 in the quarters.
