BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bates College men's tennis eam enjoyed a number of standout performances this weekend as the Bobcats competed in the annual ITA New England Championship, hosted by Bowdoin College.
In doubles competition, the tandem of
Eli Criss and
Alex Park, playing in the "A" doubles draw, defeated duos from Connecticut College (Jules Taylor/Sigmund Winiecki) and Babson College (Jonah Wilson/Caymus Choi) before eventually succumbing to Matt Kandel and Nicholas Chen of Williams College, 8-0, in the round of 16.
Nicky Desai advanced all the way to the quarterfinals of the "B" singles bracket after collecting victories versus Aidan Kwong of Colby College (default), Micah Elias of Amherst College (8-5), and Nikky Kondamuri of Middlebury College (3-6, 6-3, (10-4)). Desai faced off against Babson College's Jose Gonzalez in the quarters, falling by scores of 6-3, 6-2 to end the senior Bobcat's memorable run.
Crosby Byrnes (8-1 over Jake Murray of Wheaton College) and
 Criss
(8-5 over Max Kim of Middlebury College) also enjoyed opening-round triumphs in "B" singles before experiencing defeat in the round of 32.
The Bobcats sit idle next weekend before hosting the annual Wallach Invitational, Oct. 14-15, in the Wallach Tennis Center.
