Third-Set Surge Pushes Visiting Trinity College Past Bates Friday Night in NESCAC Action

Lewiston, Maine - Already owning a 2-0 lead, Trinity College used a 9-0 run late in the third set to win the frame, 25-22, and complete the 3-0 shutout of host-Bates College Friday night in NESCAC women's volleyball action.

The Bantams, with matching triumphs of 25-14 in the first and second stanzas collect their first conference win (1-2 NESCAC) and improve to 3-7 on the year. The Bobcats (4-6 overall) continue to seek their first NESCAC victory as the garnet and white dips to 0-4 in conference play.

Bates created a seemingly-healthy six-point cushion (20-14) before Trinity mounted its comeback. When all was said and done, the Bantams jumped ahead by a 23-20 count, a lead that would not be relinquished.

Lola Craig (Jr.-Los Angeles, Calif.) bested all players with her 10 kills over 14 attempts (.500 hitting %). Isabella Caffuzzi (So.-Brooklyn, N.Y.) followed with eight kills in 11 attempts, resulting in a hitting percentage of .636. The 6'3" force also put back a match-best three blocks.

Grace Sullivan (So.-Fort Worth, Texas) and Caroline Howell (Fy.-Houston, Texas) split the setting responsibilities as the Lone Star duo dished 14 and 12 assists, respectively. Local talent, Julia Torre (So.-Cape Elizabeth, Maine), handled 10 digs for Trinity. Howell added eight of her own.

Alyssa Lowther (So.-Wyckoff, N.J.) came off the Bates' bench to club a team-high five kills. Emma Eide (Jr.-Ramsey, N.J.) authored a line consisting of 14 assists, six digs, and three kills. Ellie Asada (Fy.-Honolulu, Hawaii) topped all players with her 12 digs and four service aces.

Things do not get easier for the Bobcats as they welcome #16 Wesleyan University (11-1, 3-0 NESCAC) to Alumni Gym Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
