Ruby Haylock fired a 79 and junior
Alex Voight-Shelley shot
an even 80 to lead the Bates women's golf team to a six-stroke lead through one round at the Wesleyan Fall Invitational, played at Lyman Orchards Golf Club.
Haylock (Hartford, Maine) and Voight-Shelley (State College, Pa.) were first and second respectively individually in a field of 41, with seven teams competing. The top four of five players on each team contribute to the scoring, while six players entered only as individuals. The Bobcats shot 330 as a team, six strokes ahead of second-place and host Wesleyan.
Sophomores
Nerea Barranco Aramburu (Zarautz, Spain) and
Maddy Kwei (Pasadena, Calif.) rounded out the scoring with rounds of 84 and 87 respectively.
The Bobcats look to hold on to their lead Sunday in the second and final round of the tournament. The action gets underway at 12pm.
