MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- Juniors
John Kawakami and
Paul Detre led the way on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, for the Bates men's golf team at the Duke Nelson Invitational.
The Bobcats shot 652 as a team at the two-day tournament, hosted at Middlebury's Ralph Myhre Golf Course, good for 22nd place out of 24 schools and 30 strokes ahead of NESCAC rival Colby.
Kawakami (Northport, N.Y.) fired a 74 on Saturday, good for a tie for 11th place out of 124 competitors. Then on Sunday, Detre (Morristown, N.J.) led the way with a 76. Over the course of two days, both Kawakami and Detre each finished with a score of 157, tying for 58th place.
First-year
Christopher John (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) finished third for the Bobcats and tied for 102nd overall with back-to-back rounds of 83 in his collegiate debut.
The Bobcats are back in action next Saturday and Sunday when they compete in the Williams Fall Invitational at Taconic Golf Club.
