BRUNSWICK, Maine -- First-year
Ruby Haylock shot a 79 and earned medalist honors as the Bates women's golf team won the Polar Bear Shootout Saturday at Brunswick Golf Club.
Haylock (Hartford, Maine) recorded a par on the second playoff hole to edge Bowdoin's Shivani Schmulen for the top spot in the field of 22.
Meanwhile, the Bobcats shot 326 as a team, five strokes better than runner-up Bowdoin. Junior
Alex Voight-Shelley (State College, Pa.) and sophomore
Maddy Kwei (Pasadena, Calif.) both shot an 80 on the day, one stroke back of Haylock and in a three-way tie for third with Bowdoin's Olivia Wirsching.
Junior
Grace Acton (Harvard, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for the Bobcats with an 87, good for 11th place.
Haylock recorded pars on 13 of 18 holes for the Bobcats, while Voight-Shelley birdied the 13th hole and Kwei birdied the seventh hole.
Bates is back in action Sunday at the Brunswick Golf Club when the Bobcats compete in the State of Maine Invitational which tees off at 9:30am.
