MEDFORD, Mass. -- Coming off being named NESCAC Field Athlete of the Week, junior
Liam Byrne jumped onto the Bates all-time top 10 list in the javelin Saturday with his performance at the Tufts Quad Meet.
The meet was delayed multiple times by lightning and the Bobcats scored 30.5 points as a team, taking on MIT, RPI and host Tufts.
Byrne (Ridgefield, Conn.) scored 15 of those points himself. His javelin throw of 180-08 (55.08m) was good for first place and puts him ninth on the program's all-time performance list.
He also set a new personal record in the hammer throw, winning with a top heave of 176-8 (53.86m). Byrne took second in the shot put (48-3.5) and third in the discus (146-1), scoring points in all four throwing events for Bates.
Elsewhere, senior captain
Charlie Hansen (Washington, D.C.) placed fourth in the pole vault with a personal record of 14-7.25 (4.45m). That effort puts Hansen ninth on the Bates all-time performance list in the event.
