Men's lacrosse falls 10-4 at Hamilton

CLINTON, N.Y. -- Hamilton College scored the first six goals and the Bates men's lacrosse team struggled to score in a 10-4 loss to the Continentals Saturday afternoon.
 
The Continentals (6-4, 3-4 NESCAC) led 3-0 at the end of the first quarter, 6-1 at the half and 9-2 after three. 
 
Bates (0-10, 0-7) is still searching for its first win of the 2022 season. The Bobcats had won the last four meetings with the Continentals going into Saturday's game. Bates was successful on just 18 of 29 clear attempts.
 
Britt Defeo led the Hamilton offense with four goals. Rowan Brumbaugh and Justin Pearl chipped in two goals and an assist apiece.
 
Seamus Fagan made 15 saves for Hamilton, recorded four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Michael Scoleri won 9 of 16 face-offs and scooped up six ground balls. Troy Pollock scored a goal and picked up five ground balls. Jayme Wilde had two of the Continentals' 10 caused turnovers.
 
Junior Will Schinabeck (Shaker Heights, Ohio) paced the Bobcats with two goals. Senior captain Jack Lousararian (Mansfield, Mass.) contributed a goal and an assist, and sophomore Jake Johnson (Lake Forest Park, Wash.) was credited with a pair of helpers. Sophomore Jack Daoust (Westwood, Mass.) registered a team-high five ground balls and senior Liam Orifici (Kensington, N.H.) caused three turnovers. Sophomore Spencer Wood (Los Altos Hills, Calif.) stopped 13 shots.
 
The Continentals took a 6-0 lead on goals from five different players. Brumbaugh broke the ice with 8:27 left in the first quarter and Defeo made it 2-0 with 3:48 remaining. Will Heher notched a goal exactly two minutes later.
 
Pollock scored 1:37 into the second quarter and Pearl gave Hamilton a five-goal cushion with 8:35 to go. Defeo increased the advantage to 6-0 on a feed from Tim Sommer with 3:29 left. Schinabeck finally put Bates on the scoreboard with 1:36 remaining.
 
The Continentals were flagged for holding as time expired in the second quarter, and Lousararian tallied the day's lone man-up goal 12 seconds into the third quarter. The Bobcats didn't score again until midway through the fourth.
 
Pearl, Defeo and Brumbaugh scored the only other goals in the third quarter and Hamilton held a commanding seven-goal lead going into the final 15 minutes. The Continentals held a 51-39 shot advantage including 18-9 in the third, and picked up 39 ground balls to Bates' 35.
 
The Bobcats return to action this Wednesday when they host Tufts at 6pm.
