No. 14 Bowdoin pulls away, defeats women's lacrosse 18-10

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Fiona Bundy scored a game-high five goals to lead the host No. 14 nationally ranked Bowdoin College Polar Bears past the Bates women's lacrosse team by a final score of 18-10 Wednesday night in NESCAC action.

Bates (2-7, 0-6 NESCAC) took its only lead of the game when junior Sophie Scola (San Mateo, Calif.) scored less than two minutes into play. Bowdoin (8-3, 3-3 NESCAC) responded with a five goal run sparked by Colleen McAloon with Sophia Sudano and Annabelle Gersch adding a pair each.

The Bobcats closed out the first quarter with free position goals from first-year Trish Balser (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) and senior captain Dana Swartz (North Andover, Mass.), to trail 5-3.

Both teams traded goals in the first five minutes of the second quarter and then held each other scoreless until under five minutes remained in the frame. McAloon broke through and Fiona Bundy added another just 32 seconds later.

Bates and Bowdoin each had one more in the final two and half minutes.

The Bobcats came out and scored first after halftime when Swartz found the back of the net on a free position shot, despite Bowdoin being a player up.

The remainder of the third saw both teams string together two-goal runs as Bates scored two sandwiched between four Bowdoin goals.

Bowdoin extended its lead in the fourth, outscoring Bates 5-2.

Swartz paced the Bobcats with four goals and recorded a team-high four ground balls in the contest.

McAloon tallied three goals, while Sudano, Annabelle Gersch, and Peyton Mulhern all added two for the Polar Bears. Olivia Coveney dished out a game high three assists and tallied a goal.

Izzy Cisneros and Sophie Brett split time in net for Bowdoin and each recorded six saves. Junior Cammie Lavoie (Epping, N.H.) made nine saves in 49 minutes in goal for the Bobcats.
