WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Bates baseball team scored three runs in the seventh inning to take the lead for good and held on from there, defeating Thomas College 10-9 Wednesday afternoon.
The Bobcats (5-14) and Terriers (4-15) combined for 32 hits in the contest.Â
With Bates trailing 4-2 entering the top of the seventh, junior
Drew Fallon (Mansfield, Mass.) got the rally started with a single to left. Junior
Tyler Attal (Los Angeles) followed with a single of his own and sophomore
Christopher Cimino (Scarborough, Maine) bunted the runners over. First-year
Ben Genser (Newton, Mass.) stepped to the plate as a pinch hitter and reached on an error by the Thomas shortstop. Fallon and Attal scored on the play, tying the game at four.Â
Senior
Bryan Gotti (Westwood, Mass.) followed with a single but Genser got thrown out between second and third for the second out of the inning. Sophomore
Jack Brennan (West Hartford, Conn.) drew a walk and junior
John Nowak (Pelham, N.Y.) delivered the big hit, an RBI single to plate Gotti, giving Bates a 5-4 lead.
With Bates up by one, both teams scored two runs in the eighth and three runs in the ninth.Â
Attal and Fallon recorded three hits and three runs scored each for Bates. Meanwhile, sophomore
Noah Jankowski (Methuen, Mass.) and first-year
Brandon Biggane (Rensselaer, N.Y.) both homered in the contest for the Bobcats.
Junior
Sam Hough (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) tossed an inning and two thirds of shutout ball out of the bullpen, picking up the win for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats return to NESCAC action this Saturday when they host Tufts at 3pm.Â
