BERNARDSTON, Mass. -- The Bates women's golf team placed seventh out of 10 schools competing at the Jack Leaman Invitational, hosted by Amherst Saturday and Sunday at Crumpin-Fox Golf Club.
Sophomore
Alex Voight-Shelley (State College, Pa.) paced the Bobcats, shooting a two-day score of 165 and finishing in a tie for 31st out of 59 competitors. She birdied a pair of holes on Saturday and three more on Sunday, bouncing back from a first-round 85 to shoot an even 80 on day two. In the process, Voight-Shelley moved up the leaderboard by six spots, nearly netting a top-30 finish.
First-year
Maddy Kwei (Pasadena, Calif.) birdied hole 12 on day one on her way to an 82, the lowest score of the day for the Bobcats. Her two-day score of 166 placed Kwei in a tied for 34th, just one stroke back of Voight-Shelley. Fellow first-year
Nerea Barranco Aramburu (Zarutz, Spain) matched Voight-Shelley for the low round of the weekend for the Bobcats, firing a second-day score of 80 that featured birdies on holes 16 and 17.
Combined the Bobcats shot 693 as a team, ahead of NESCAC foes Wesleyan (710), Trinity (735) and Bowdoin (766).
