Jack Howard and sophomore
Paul Detre paced the Bates men's golf team at the Williams Spring Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, the program's final tuneup before this weekend's NESCAC Championships.
Howard (Pelham, N.Y.) and Detre (Morristown, N.J.) both shot two-day scores of 165 to finish in a tie for 42nd place out of 58 competitors at Taconic Golf Club. Howard had the best round of anyone on the Bobcats, shooting a 79 on Saturday, recording an eagle on hole one and a birdie on hole three. Detre bounced back from a first-round 85 to shoot 80 on Sunday, tallying a birdie on hole 10 and eight pars on the day.
The Bobcats finished in ninth place with a team score of 663.
Bates is back in action this Saturday and Sunday at the NESCAC Men's Golf Championships, held at Yahnundasis Golf Club in New Hartford, N.Y.
