NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Bates men's tennis team picked up a NESCAC win Saturday morning, defeating Connecticut College on the road by a final score of 8-1.
The Bobcats (3-5, 1-2 NESCAC) got off to a strong start in doubles play against the Camels (5-5, 0-3 NESCAC), as first-year
Paul Zhou (Beijing, China) and sophomore
Nikesh Desai (Hopkinton, Mass.) cruised to an 8-2 win at No. 3 over Conn. College's Jules Taylor-Kerman and Sean Jenkins.Â
Then junior
Leo Kupferman (Montclair, N.J.) and junior captain
Teddy Koide (Morristown, N.J.) teamed up to defeat David Poudrier and Evan Aoki-Goldsmith by a count of 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. Bates finished off the doubles sweep with sophomoresÂ
Alexander Gujarathi (Plymouth, Mass.) and
Matthew Danielson (St. Petersburg, Fla.) winning 8-6 at No. 1 doubles over Julian Tien and Henry De Coster.
In singles play, junior captain
Nick Forester (Falmouth, Maine) made quick work of Tien at No. 1, winning 6-4, 6-1. Then sophomore
Aaron Ramos (Englewood, N.J.) clinched the match for Bates with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Jenkins at No. 6 singles.
Sophomore
Alexander Archer (Austin, Texas) earned a hard-fought win at No. 5 singles, prevailing 7-6 (5), 2-6, 10-5 over Aaron Fleishman.Â
Koide and Danielson backed up their wins in doubles with wins in singles as well, with Koide winning 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4 over Taylor-Kerman and Danielson prevailing 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 over Poudrier.
The Bobcats are back in action Sunday at 10am when they take on Trinity in NESCAC action.Â
