LEWISTON, Maine -- Sophomore
Christopher Cimino tallied five hits and the Bates baseball team used a 13-run fifth inning to defeat Dean College 28-12 Wednesday afternoon at Leahey Field. The game was called after the top of the eighth inning due to darkness.
Wednesday's offensive outburst is the most runs Bates has scored in one game since 1985.
The Bobcats (6-16) trailed the Bulldogs (7-17) by a count of 8-7 entering the bottom of the fifth. First-year
Ben Genser (Newton, Mass.) drew a walk to start the frame. Senior captain
Kevin Lucey (Topsfield, Mass.) drew a walk and Genser attempted to steal third. The throw went into left field, plating Genser for the tying run.

Ben Gesmondi (Portsmouth, R.I.) singled in Lucey and Bates led 9-8.
Later in the inning, junior
Drew Fallon (Mansfield, Mass.) bunted his away aboard, loading the bases with nobody out. Junior
Tyler Attal (Los Angeles) got hit by a pitch, forcing in a run. Then Cimino (Scarborough, Maine) singled home a pair of runs, adding to the Bates advantage.
The Bobcats batted around the lineup twice in the inning, scoring 13 runs on seven hits. Genser chipped in an RBI single and Attal, Cimino, and junior
Henry Jamieson (St. Simons Island, Ga.) all recorded RBI singles as well their second times up in the frame.
Dean got two runs back in the top of the sixth, but the Bobcats tacked on seven runs in the bottom half of the frame. Genser, Lucey, and Gesmondi tallied back-to-back-to-back singles to start the frame. Sophomore
Noah Jankowski (Methuen, Mass.) drew a walk, driving in Genser. Pinch hitter first-year
Joe Bianchi (Sciutate, Mass.) got hit by a pitch and sophomore
Noah Ackerman (Armonk, N.Y.) doubled in a pair of runs, making the score 24-10.
Cimino singled in Bianchi and one out later pinch hitter junior
Alex Ross (Ridgefield, Conn.) singled home Ackerman. Cimino later scored on a ground out, giving the Bobcats their 27th run of the game. Cimino drove in the team's 28th run of the contest the very next inning with a sacrifice fly to center.
The Bobcats used eight pitchers in the victory. Senior

Ian McAslan (Baltimore, Md.) all threw scoreless innings for Bates.
The Bobcats are back in action this Friday at 3pm when they host rival Colby in NESCAC action.
