CLERMONT, Fla. -- Hamline scored three runs in the seventh and Carleton College scored seven runs in the first to defeat the Bates softball team by scores of 7-6 and 13-6 respectively on Monday.
The Bobcats (0-4) look to pick up their first win of the season Tuesday in Florida when they take on Centre at 4pm and the University of Chicago at 6:15pm.Â
Hamline 7, Bates 6
The Bobcats took a 6-2 lead only to see Hamline University rally to win 7-6 Monday morning.Â
With Bates up 6-4 entering the seventh, Hamline's Gabby Cook doubled to left center and Theresa Klinnert drew a walk. They each scored when Gabby Tuhy laid down a bunt that was picked up by the Bates pitcher and thrown into foul territory, which knotted the score at 6-6. Tuhy moved to third on a sacrifice bunt, and she scored a walk-off run on Costley's bunt single that made things final at 7-6.
The Bobcats out-hit Hamline 16-8 in the game.Â
Trailing 2-0, Bates got on the board in the second. JuniorÂ
Lindsey Kim (Palo Alto, Calif.) started the frame with a single to center. SeniorÂ
Eliza McNulty (Cambridge, Mass.) followed with a single through the right side. Kim got caught stealing but McNulty advanced to second on the play. Then first-yearÂ
Maggie Hillwig (Phoenix, Md.) singled in McNulty, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
The Bobcats tied the game in the third. SeniorÂ
Kennedy Ishii (Honolulu, Hawaii) got hit by a pitch to start the frame and advanced two bases on a wild pitch. One out later, senior captain
 Emily Samar (New York City) reached on an error. Then the Bobcats attempted a double steal. Samar was thrown out at second but Ishii scored on the play, making the score 2-2.
Bates appeared to take command of the game in the fourth. JuniorÂ
Amanda Taylor (Fair Lawn, N.J.) tripled to start the inning and first-yearÂ
Grace Householter (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) singled Taylor home and the Bobcats took a 3-2 lead. Ishii followed with a single to left and one out later Samar singled to load the bases.
Kim continued her hot start to the season with an RBI single to left, scoring Householter. With two down, Hillwig reached on an error and two runs scored, making the score 6-2 in favor of Bates.
But Hamline got a run back in the fifth on a sacrifice fly and a run back in the sixth on an RBI groundout, setting up the three-run seventh inning. Meanwhile, Bates did not score another run in the contest.
Hillwig (0-3) pitched the entire game for Bates, striking out four batters in six and a third innings. She also went 2-4 at the dish with an RBI. Kim and Ishii both went 3-3 at the plate, with Ishii scoring two runs and Kim driving in one. McNulty finished 2-3 with a run scored and Taylor went 2-4 with a triple and a run scored.
Carleton 13, Bates 6
Carleton College scored seven runs on three hits in the first inning and defeated Bates 13-6 Monday afternoon.Â
The Bobcats committed three errors in the frame, putting themselves in too big of a hole to climb out of, despite a strong comeback attempt.
Down by seven, Bates got three back in the bottom of the first. JuniorÂ
Cassidy Musco (Walpole, Mass.) led off the frame with a single. Ishii followed with a single of her own and Musco stole third to put runners at the corners with nobody out. McNulty reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Musco on the play.Â
With one out, the Bobcats pulled off a double steal and with two outs senior captainÂ
Janell Sato (Honolulu, Hawaii) singled home both runners to cut the deficit to 7-3.
Carleton scored three more runs in the top of the third before the Bobcats answered with three of their own in the bottom half of the frame.
Kim singled to start the bottom of the third and sophomoreÂ
Rachel Liazos (Westborough, Mass.) got hit by a pitch. Kim stole third and Sato walked to load the bases. First-yearÂ
Sarah Cooke (Wenham, Mass.) reached on a fielder's choice, driving in Kim. Cooke stole second and sophomoreÂ
Cameron Jones-McNally (Marcellus, Mich.) singled in Liazos and Cooke, cutting the deficit to 10-6.
But Carleton reliever Moira Rankin (1-0) shut down the Bobcats for the final three innings and Carleton added three insurance runs down the stretch to pull away for the victory over Bates.
Cassie Cunniff led Carleton at the plate, going 3-5 with two home runs, three runs scored, and two RBIs.Â
Ishii led the way at the plate for the Bobcats, going 2-4 with a run scored. SeniorÂ
Danielle Polirer (Bellmore, N.Y.) started the game in the circle for Bates and tossed five innings, giving up 11 runs, only four of which were earned. Polirer (0-1) struck out three batters on the afternoon.
