Recharged Bobcats Coast to 87-57 Non-Conference Triumph Over UNE

14 Different Players Sink Shots for Bates in Home Rout

Story Links

Lewiston, Maine -- There would be no post-Thanksgiving aftereffect for Bates College men's hoops as the Bobcats concocted their largest winning margin since 2019-20, dismissing the University of New England, 87-57, Sunday afternoon in Alumni Gymnasium.

14 different Bobcats sank shots for the garnet and white in the 30-point triumph, the largest cushion for Bates since defeating Maine Maritime Academy by 46 (88-42) back on Jan. 28, 2020.

Simon McCormick (Jr.-Whitefield, Maine) drilled a three-pointer for the Bobcats with 10:31 left in the first half, providing the home team a hearty 28-9 surplus just halfway through the stanza. Bates would never look back as they closed out the frame on a 20-8 surge to ease into intermission with a 31-point advantage (48-17).

The second half proved to be anticlimactic as the victors inflated their advantage to an afternoon-best 45 points. A three-pointer from Cam Riley (North Myrtle Beach, S.C.) had the Bobcats soaring at 77-32 with 8:45 to go in regulation. The senior also rejected a trio of UNE efforts over his 10 minutes.

Steph Baxter (Sr.-Worcester, Mass.) paced the Bates' offense with a game-high 15 points in 17 minutes, while dishing four helpers in the win. Brady Coyne (Fy.-Falmouth, Maine) established a personal season-high with his 11-point contribution over 18 minutes of action.

Jahmir Primer (So.-Hempstead, N.Y.) hit for 10 points with a pair of three-pointers. Devin Harris (Bear, Del.) also tallied 10 points, four of which came courtesy of emphatic dunks by the junior forward.

First-years David Omasombo (Lewiston, Maine), Aazayah Ross (Freeport, N.Y.), and Chiwer Mayen (Lewiston, Maine), as well as sophomore Garvin McLaughlin (Milton, Mass.), each netted their first-career points for the Bobcats (2-2) in the rout.

UNE slips to 2-5 with the setback.

Bates stays on home turf for its next outing as the Bobcats host Husson University Tuesday evening at 8:00 p.m. in another non-conference tilt.
