Potsdam, N.Y. - Playing three matches in less than a 24-hour time frame, Bates College visited Clarkson University Saturday for a tri-match vs. the host-Golden Knights and Skidmore College in NCAA Division II non-conference women's volleyball competition.
The Bobcats opened the afternoon by a dropping a 3-0 decision to Clarkson (10-25, 14-25, 14-25).
Emma Eide (Jr. -Ramsey, N.J.), for the second-straight outing (and fifth time this season), put together a double-double showing (15 assists, 14 digs).
Alyssa Lowther (So.-Wyckoff, N.J.) paced the offense with seven kills.
Bates, in an epic nightcap, pushed Skidmore to the absolute limit before eventually coming up short vs. the Thoroughbreds in a five-set thriller. Skidmore looked for a three-set sweep of the Bobcats with wins of 25-20 and 25-23. The garnet-and-white countered with triumphs of 27-25 and 25-22 to push the match to a fifth-and-final frame.
The Bobcats and Thoroughbreds duked it out in the last round, eventually finding themselves in a 14-14 stalemate before Skidmore secured the final two points ... and the victory.
Ami Evans (Honolulu, Hawaii) collected a career-best 19 kills for Bates, the most by a single Bobcat in any match this season. The first-year also gathered 22 digs for her second double-double in as many days. Lowther finished with a personal season-high 16 kills.
Eide extended her double-double streak to three-in-a-row with 14 digs and a season-best 42 assists.
Ellie Asada (Fy.-Honolulu,Hawaii) settled 20 digs, her fifth match of the year with 20 or more.
The garnet and white (5-15) returns to action Wednesday night with a 7:00 p.m. visit to Maine Maritime Academy
