Gorham, Maine - Despite the result, Bates College showed its mettle as the Bobcats suffered a 1-0 edging at in-state foe University of Southern Maine Sunday in regional women's soccer action.
The Huskies, now 9-1 after the home win, secured the match's lone tally when Gaby Panagakos (Gr.-Scarborough, Maine) flicked in a Catriona Gould (Jr.-Freeport, Maine) feed in the 15th minute (14:28). The Bobcats had their chances as the road team out-shot USM 12-9 overall.
Breanna Atwood (Jr.-Franklin, Mass.) gathered four saves to earn the goalkeeping victory for the Huskies.
Ruby Reimann (So.-Oak Bluffs, Mass.), in her first start of the season for the Bobcats, grabbed five saves in the complete-game performance.
The garnet and white (3-5-1) returns to NESCAC competition this Saturday with a visit to Hamilton College (11:00 a.m.) in Clinton, N.Y.
