WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Bates men's golf team turned in a trio of solid performances, placing fifth out of seven teams Sunday at the Colby Classic, held at Waterville Country Club.
The Bobcats shot 226 as a team, just three strokes out of a top-three finish. Thomas College won the event with a 215.
First-years
Christopher John (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) and
Henry Ehrlich (Portland, Ore.) teamed up and shot a 75. Sophomores
Will Phillips (Portland, Ore.) and
Fred Curtis (Harvard, Mass.) also shot a 75 on the day. Juniors
Paul Detre (Morristown, N.J.) and
Sam Gerry (Woburn, Mass.) finished one stroke back with a 76.
Each two-man team played the first six holes as one best ball, the next six as a scramble and the final six alternating shots. The total score was the best result for each two man team and the scores of the top three teams per school were counted.
