Detre earns share of medalist honors, men's golf wins CBB Championship

AUBURN, Maine -- Junior Paul Detre earned a share of medalist honors and the Bates men's golf team won the CBB Championship, held Saturday at Martindale Country Club.

The Bobcats won the CBB Championship for the first time since 2018, shooting 317 as a team on their home course. Bowdoin finished four strokes back at 321 and Colby came in third with a 353. Each team entered six competitors, with the four lowest scores counting towards each team's total.

Detre (Morristown, N.J.) shot a 76 to pace the Bobcats, and he tied Bowdoin's Jack Barned for the lowest score of the tournament among the 18 golfers in the field. Detre did particularly well down the stretch, recording a par or better on five of the last six holes, with a birdie on hole 17.

Sophomore Fred Curtis (Harvard, Mass.) and junior Sam Gerry (Woburn, Mass.) both shot an 80 on the day, with Curtis birdying hole 15 and Gerry tallying back-to-back birdies on holes four and five. Junior John Kawakami (Northport, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for Bates with an 81, tallying a birdie on hole eight.

Bates men's golf has now won five of the last eight CBB Championships. The Bobcats return to action Sunday at 11am when they compete in the Colby Classic, held annually at Waterville Country Club.
