BANGOR, Maine -- The Bates volleyball team earned
Emily Hayes a victory in her debut as Bates head coach in the Bobcats' first match in nearly two years, as they defeated Husson University 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 27-25).
First-year
Alyssa Lowther (Wyckoff, N.J.) led Bates (1-0) in kills (13), service aces (6) and blocks (3), while senior
Sydney Phillips (Plainville, Mass.) posted 11 kills with only one error on 22 attacks (.455). Bates hit at a .189 percentage for the match, rising to a match-best .241 rate in the fourth set. Husson was limited to a .097 attack percentage.
Junior setter
Emma Eide (Ramsey, N.J.) paced the offense with 25 assists, in addition to a career-high seven kills. First-year
Kate Hansen (Menlo Park, Calif.) posted a team-high 16 digs.
Julia Leavitt led the host Eagles (2-2) with 11 kills, while Karimah Land added seven kills and four blocks. Alyvia McIntyre posted 30 assists and 12 digs.
Bates plays another non-conference road match on Friday at 7pm at Babson College.
