BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Senior captain
Jack Howard tied for fifth out of 83 competitors to lead the Bates men's golf team Saturday at the Bowdoin Invitational.
Torrential rains overnight made Brunswick Golf Club unplayable on Sunday, and shortened the Bowdoin Invitational to a single day of play.
Howard (Pelham, N.Y.) birdied three holes on his way to a 73, just four strokes back of medalist Jack Godin of Trinity. As a team, the Bobcats finished 8th out of 15 squads, shooting +26, ahead of CBB rivals Bowdoin (+30) and Colby (+41). Bates finished one stroke back of a tie for sixth with Williams and Endicott.
Sophomores
Paul Detre (Morristown, N.J.) and
Evan Glicos (Windham, Maine) both finished at eight over par, with Detre shooting even par on the back nine to finish tied for 43rd in the field. Sophomore
John Kawakami (Northport, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for Bates with a nine-over-par 81.
The Bates men's golf team is back in action next Sunday at the Colby Classic, hosted by Waterville Country Club.
