STANDISH, Maine -- The Bates volleyball team was in complete control Saturday, defeating Saint Joseph's College 3-0 (25-19, 25-8, 25-12) and following that up with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-9) win over Albertus-Magnus.

The Bobcats (4-6) look to keep it rolling this Friday when they visit Connecticut College at 7pm in a return to NESCAC action.

Bates 3, Saint Joseph's 0 (25-19, 25-8, 25-12)

First-year Alyssa Lowther (Wyckoff, N.J.) led all players with eight kills, with no attack errors, in a 3-0 (25-19, 25-8, 25-12) win for the Bates volleyball team Saturday morning over Saint Joseph's College of Maine.

Sophomore Cayla Deacon (Ellenwood, Ga.) and senior Sydney Phillips (Plainville, Mass.) added six kills apiece, with Deacon adding a service ace and eight digs. Junior Emma Eide (Ramsey, N.J.) dished out 18 assists and tallied six digs, with three service aces. Meanwhile, senior Megan Seabury (Santa Barbara, Calif.) led all players with 10 digs to go along with two assists and a service ace. First-year Kate Hansen (Menlo Park, Calif.) showed off a strong serve with a match-high four service aces and junior Charlotte Morris (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) tallied three service aces, seven digs and one kill.

Bates led 20-19 in the first set, ending on a 5-0 run to clinch it, keyed by kills from Eide and Phillips. Then the Bobcats opened the second set on a 7-0 run, highlighted by a Lowther kill and a pair of Hansen service aces. Later in the set, the Bobcats went on another 7-0 run, turning a 15-5 lead into a 22-5 lead, thanks to kills from Lowther, Deacon and Phillips, with a pair of Morris service aces mixed in. Another Deacon kill clinched the 25-8 win in set two.

In set three, Bates used yet another 7-0 run to turn an 8-6 advantage into a commanding 15-6 lead. Phillips and first-year Julia Neumann (Norwell, Mass.) started the run with kills and Morris served up another ace. Later in the set, junior Catie Sanchez (Pasadena, Calif.) clinched the match with her fifth kill of the day.

Bates 3, Albertus-Magnus 0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-9)

Lowther led the Bobcats in kills again, tallying 12 in a 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-9) win over Albertus-Magnus Saturday afternoon.

Neumann had a big match as well, with eight kills, a service ace, two blocks and two digs. Eide tallied a match-high 15 assists and three service aces. First-year Chrissy Chu (Old Tappan, N.J.) had a strong match with 14 assists and three digs. Morris and Seabury both recorded 10 digs in the contest.

Bates held on to an 8-7 lead early in the first set when the Bobcats went on a 4-0 run, keyed by kills from Neumann and Sanchez and back-to-back service aces from Eide. An 8-0 run later in the set put it completely out of reach and Deacon and Sanchez recorded back-to-back kills to give Bates the 25-14 win.

The Bobcats survived a fairly close second set before completely dominating the third set of action, at one point going on a 13-0 run, turning a 6-4 edge into a 19-4 margin over the Falcons (1-9).

Bates hit over .200 in all three sets of the match.
