BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The Bates women's soccer team outshot the University of New England in a 0-0 draw Wednesday night at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
The Bobcats (1-2-2) took 10 shots in the match, with three on goal. Sophomore
Maeve Parmelee (Pelham, N.Y.) paced Bates with three shots, one on goal. Junior
Elizabeth Patrick (Ipswich, Mass.) added a pair of shots, with one on goal. Parmelee had the first opportunity of the night for either side, taking a shot in the ninth minute towards the bottom left side of the net. But she was turned away by UNE keeper Sydney Gillingham.
The Nor'easters (4-2-1) recorded their first shot in the 15th minute when Meredith Kennedy tried a shot to the lower left. She was denied by Bates senior goalkeeper
Kat Nuckols (Los Angeles), who made a pair of saves in 110 minutes between the pipes for the Bobcats.
UNE tallied four shots in the match, with two on goal. Caroline Meuse paced UNE with a pair of shots. Gillingham finished with three saves.
Patrick had the best chance in the first overtime but Gillingham made the save on a shot toward the lower center of the net. Alyssa Boilard went top shelf in the 109th minute in the second overtime, which Nuckols turned away. Parmelee had the last chance to give Bates the lead but missed high on a shot in the 110th minute.
Bates returns to action this Sunday at 1pm when the Bobcats visit Saint Joseph's College of Maine.
