BANGOR, Maine -- The Bates women's soccer team got a goal from junior
Elizabeth Patrick in a 1-1 draw with Husson on the road Tuesday night at Boucher Field.
With Bates trailing 1-0 in the 70th minute, sophomore
Rachael Mello (Douglas, Mass.) delivered a perfect through ball from midfield over the Eagles' defense and Patrick (Ipswich, Mass.) was on the other end of the pass and scored her second goal of the season.
It was a very even first half as both teams had three shots on goal with both goalkeepers answering the call. The best chance for the Eagles came in the 27th minute when the Bobcats turned it over and Charlotte Messer had a chance from the top of the box, but senior Annie Doig (Wayne, Pa.) blocked it away. The Bobcats went on the counter and thought they had scored on a shot by sophomore Audrey Soss (San Francisco, Calif.), but Husson's Miranda Lewis was there to deflect the ball off the goal-line and keep the game scoreless at halftime.
The Eagles (2-2-1) got the breakthrough in the 55th minute. A free kick taken by Husson's Edie Shea deflected off the Bates keeper to Molly Ennis, who scored her second goal of the season. Patrick scored the equalizer 15 minutes later.
The Eagles had the best chance of extra time as Natalie Aviolla took a free kick from 25 yards out and her shot was tipped over the bar by Bates senior Kat Nuckols (Los Angeles). Neither team could find the golden goal en route to the 1-1 draw.
Bates (1-1-1) tallied 19 shots (nine on goal) on the evening to Husson's 16 (eight on goal). Nuckols played all 110 minutes in goal and recorded seven saves. Husson's Hannah Kenney finished with six saves.
The Bobcats return to NESCAC action Saturday morning when they host Connecticut College at 11am.
