BRUNSWICK, Maine -- First-year
Maddy Kwei finished second out of 24 competitors to lead the Bates women's golf team to second place at the State of Maine Invitational at Brunswick Golf Club on Sunday.
Kwei (Pasadena, Calif.) finished at three over par, just one stroke back of medalist Abbie Kaestle of Bowdoin. Kwei shot a 38 on the front nine, good for even par after birdies on the eighth and ninth holes. The two stood tied after 16 holes in a close battle down the stretch.
Three Bobcats finished in the top 10, as sophomore
Alex Voight-Shelley (State College, Pa.) tied for sixth with an 84 and first-year
Nerea Barranco Aramburu (Zarautz, Spain) placed ninth with an 87.
Bates shot 340 as a team, just eight strokes back of first-place Bowdoin. The Bobcats finished 23 strokes ahead of third-place Trinity and 55 strokes ahead of Husson.
The Bobcat women travel to Middlebury next weekend for the George Phinney Classic.
