Glicos leads men's golf at Duke Nelson Invitational

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- Sophomore Evan Glicos broke 80 both days and shot a team-best 75 on Sunday to pace the Bates men's golf team at the Duke Nelson Invitational, the first tournament of the 2021-22 season. 

The Bobcats finished 17th out of 23 teams overall in the two-day tournament at Ralph Myhre Golf Course. 

Glicos (Windham, Maine) got Sunday's round started with a birdie on the first hole. He also notched birdies on the 15th and 17th holes to finish four over par on the day and 12 over for the tournament. His performance was good for a tie for 36th place among 110 golfers in the field. 

Sophomore John Kawakami (Northport, N.Y.) matched Glicos with a 79 on Saturday and followed up with an 82 on Sunday, finishing tied for 62nd overall. 

The Bobcats were tied for 12th after day one of competition, with sophomore Paul Detre (Morristown, N.J.) leading the way on Saturday, shooting a 78, highlighted by a birdie on the third hole. 

Bates men's golf is back in action this Saturday and Sunday at Taconic Golf Club for the Williams Fall Invitational.
